September 9, 2017, 10:00 AM @ Western Allegheny Community Library
Allegheny Cemetery is a Historic Landmark and benefit of the public. One of the oldest and largest cemeteries in the country with over 300 acres and 15 miles of paved roads, Allegheny Cemetery's rural landscape, thriving tree canopy, and abundant wildlife create the feel of an urban oasis. Over 133,000 members of Pittsburgh's families are now resting in these consecrated acres, including over 12,000 veterans from every American conflict, prominent philanthropists, politicians, entertainers, sport stars, composers, artists and more. Join us for a group tour of the cemetery in its best season of autumn foliage, led by Cemetery Superintendent Roger Galbraith. The cost of $10 per person covers the cost of literature and a donation to the Cemetery's Historical Association. Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Western Allegheny Community Library for transportation arrangements.
